Two associate deans named at HPER

Two new associate deans have been named in the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) at Indiana University Bloomington.

Jerry Wilkerson of Texas Woman's University has been named executive associate dean, and David Koceja of the HPER faculty has been promoted to associate dean for research. The appointments are effective July 1.

HPER Dean David Gallahue said the positions will handle and expand duties that were previously his responsibility as associate dean for academics and research until he was named to his current position last July. Ruth Russell of the HPER faculty has been serving as interim executive associate dean since that time.

Wilkerson, who received her doctorate from HPER, is currently chair of the Kinesiology Department at Texas Woman's University in Denton. She has held teaching and administrative assignments there in kinesiology for nearly 20 years and has been department chair since 1996.

Koceja, a professor and director of graduate studies in the HPER Department of Kinesiology, has been an IU faculty member and director of the Motor Control Laboratory since 1989. He holds two degrees from IU, a master's degree in biomechanics and a doctorate in motor control.
