INDIANAPOLIS -- The Herron School of Art and Design on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus has received a $500,000 gift from the estate of James D. "With this gift Mr. Esamann is not only creating a legacy, but also providing the means for students to develop as artists and design and create their own legacies. Planned giving is a generous and thoughtful way of supporting Herron, and we are incredibly grateful to Mr. Esamann," said Herron School of Art and Design Dean Valerie Eickmeier.

In the spring of 2008, more than $120,000 in scholarships was awarded to undergraduate and graduate students for academic achievement. In addition, Herron funds the Rev. A.G. Fraser International Travel Fund, which supports international study opportunities for Herron students, and the Shared Heritage Scholarship Endowment, a fund that supports minority students. Herron hopes to double the amount of scholarship dollars awarded by 2010.

Herron School of Art and Design, a school of Indiana University and Indiana's only professional school of art and design, is nationally recognized by U.S. News and World Report, ranking 45th among 300 art and design schools nationwide. Located on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Herron enrolls nearly 900 students in bachelor's and master's degree programs including fine arts, visual communication design, visual art, art education and art history.

Herron is also home to the Herron Galleries, which exhibit contemporary works of art by regional and national artists, and the Basile Center for Art, Design and Public Life, which enriches educational and interdisciplinary activities through civic engagement and community partnerships.
