BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- For the third consecutive year, Indiana Alumni Magazine has been recognized by the University & College Designers Association with an Award of Excellence.
The magazine received the award in the Editorial Spread category for the feature "Last Gasp of the Clickety-Clacks," which appeared in the July/August 2007 issue. The article was written by Gena Asher and illustrated by Barry Fitzgerald. Char Dapena, art director for the Indiana University Alumni Association, traveled to Savannah, Ga., to accept the award on Oct. 5 during the 38th Annual UCDA Design Conference.
"Whenever we receive an award at the national level, it's very exciting," Dapena said. "This award represents the level of teamwork that goes into every issue of the Indiana Alumni Magazine."
The UCDA judges evaluated nearly 1,600 print entries in the design competition and gave only 193 awards in that category. Founded in 1970 as the nation's first and only association for visual communications professionals working for higher-education institutions, the UCDA has more than 1,000 members throughout the United States and Canada.
"I'm very proud that our design staff consistently is recognized for the excellent work that they produce for the magazine," said Mike Wright, editor in chief of Indiana Alumni Magazine. "It's gratifying to receive awards, but even more important, we're happy to provide a quality publication for our alumni."
Indiana Alumni Magazine is a publication of the IU Alumni Association, which is dedicated to serving the university and its diverse alumni, students and friends. As one of the nation's largest alumni organizations, serving over 516,000 graduates worldwide, the IUAA provides many programs and services to its members, nonmember alumni, and the university.
