IU SPEA and NonProfit Alliance for Monroe County host "toolkit" for nonprofits

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 27, 2008

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Nonprofit professionals and IU students will come together to develop practical skills at the third annual Toolkit for Nonprofits hosted by the NonProfit Alliance of Monroe County and the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA), Nov. 6-7, in Bloomington.

The toolkit is a two-day symposium that features guest lecturers spanning an array of expertise. Speakers will address fundamental aspects of nonprofit organizational development.

"It was so successful the first year that it was repeated and has continued to grow," said Renee Chambers, chair of the NonProfit Alliance Networking & Training Committee. "It is a great opportunity for nonprofit agency staff, board members and volunteers, as well as students, to get insight on a variety of topics, to be able to ask experts questions about issues that affect us all, and to be able to network with their peers.

"This is just a really great training opportunity for agencies with very limited training budgets," she said. "IU SPEA professors and staff are awesome to contribute their expertise to our community in this way."

SPEA professor and former nonprofit management consultant Beth Gazley said, "We are also fortunate to work in a community with a strong and vibrant nonprofit sector. We are delighted to partner with the NonProfit Alliance to offer this workshop to community members, volunteers and nonprofit staff."

The Toolkit for Nonprofits will take place at the Showers Building, 401 N. Morton St., from 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Nov. 6 and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 7. The fee of $40 for professionals and $20 for students is due by Oct. 31. Questions may be sent by e-mail to speatoolkit2008@gmail.com.
