Provost to deliver State of the Campus address

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Bloomington Provost and Executive Vice President Karen Hanson will deliver the annual State of the Campus address during a meeting of the Bloomington Faculty Council on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

The meeting begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Frangipani Room of the Indiana Memorial Union, 900 E. Seventh St. The provost's address to the faculty council is the main item of business. Members of the public may attend.

This will be the second State of the Campus address for Hanson, who became provost, or chief academic officer, of the campus in July 2007. Also the Rudy Professor of Philosophy at Indiana University Bloomington, she served as dean of the Hutton Honors College from 2002 to 2007 and chaired the Department of Philosophy from 1997 to 2002.

Hanson has won numerous campus and all-university teaching awards, along with a Lilly Fellowship and a number of research grants. She received her B.A., summa cum laude, in Philosophy and Mathematics from the University of Minnesota and her Ph.D. and A.M. in Philosophy from Harvard University. Her principal research interests are in the philosophy of mind, ethics, aesthetics and American philosophy.

The State of the Campus address will be followed by a question-and-comment session with the Bloomington Faculty Council and a reception.
