BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University students created more than 50 videos highlighting their favorite aspects of the university for a recent "Celebrate IU" student video contest.

Celebrate IU Video Winner 2008

Robin Licht raps about her IUPUI love in this screen shot from the "Why We Love IU Rap," winner of the Celebrate IU Video Contest.

The contest, now in its second year, is part of the university's "Celebrate IU" festivities, a month of special events at all eight IU campuses that began Oct. 1. IU asked students to share their university spirit with the world by creating 60-second videos and uploading them to the popular video sharing Web site YouTube.

The winning video, viewable at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg1qP7iBiMQ, was produced by IUPUI undergraduates Robin Licht, Erik Osburn, and Mariah White, who will receive the $300 grand prize. In the "Why We Love IU," co-stars Licht and Osburn rap about IU, IUPUI's status as a top urban university, and successful IU alumni such as astronaut David Wolf and actor Kevin Kline.

IUPUI graduate student Prathik Gadde won second place and $200 for his video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5Ug_jjC-7g) about the culture, tradition, passion and accomplishments at IU's eight campuses.

In the third-place video, viewable at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRXlej9JuHY, IU Bloomington undergraduate Jake Isley asked students around campus why they love IU. Isley will receive $100.

"I was very impressed with the students' creativity," said Keith Roach, project manager of the contest and a writer-editor at the IU Office of Creative Services. "All of the videos are a lot of fun to watch, and they show the variety of reasons students think IU is a great university."

The contest's judges were Bob Bledsoe, a lecturer in the IU Bloomington Department of English and the director of the IU Writers' Conference; Michael Lasater, professor of communication arts and director of new media at IU South Bend; and Danielle Straszheim, a business administration major and member of the Student Government Association at IU East.
