Trustees to discuss budget, fees

The Indiana University Board of Trustees will discuss tuition and fees and the university's 2003-2004 budget during a Committee of the Whole session at 8 a.m. Thursday (May 8) in the Frangipani Room of the Indiana Memorial Union.

The General Assembly approved the state budget in late April, and Gov. Frank O'Bannon has announced he will sign it. State appropriations make up just under 30 percent of Indiana University's total revenue.

Judith Palmer, IU's vice president and chief financial officer, will make a presentation to the board about the impact of the budget allocation on IU's programs.

The Board of Trustees is expected to enact the schedule of tuition and fees for the upcoming academic year during its regular May business meeting, which will begin at 10:15 a.m. Friday (May 9) in the Frangipani Room.

During the Finance and Audit Committee meeting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Walnut Room of the IMU, the Trustees also are scheduled to discuss the university's policies toward investing in the Central Indiana Life Science Initiative's Indiana Futures Fund. The trustees will hear from representatives of the firm that was recently selected as the manager of the fund. The Indiana Futures Fund is a venture capital fund designed for investment primarily in life sciences.
