BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Two local celebrities will be participating in the musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at IU Auditorium Feb. 3 and 4 at 8 p.m.

Spelling Bee

The Feb. 3 performance will feature Alex from the radio program "Alex's Playhouse" on B97 (96.7 FM). During the Feb. 4 performance, audience members will be able to watch Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan take part in the bee. The show also offers other audience members the opportunity to become part of the action as on-stage spellers.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee centers around a regional spelling bee and six quirky adolescents who compete for the crown. What follows is a show that humorously revisits the early-teen years with experiences ranging from hideously embarrassing moments to important lessons learned.

The musical opened on Broadway in May of 2005 and ran until January of 2008. It is directed by James Lapine, a Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winner. Author Rachel Sheinkin won a Tony Award for Best Book for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

The IU Auditorium Box office is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets for all Auditorium events are also available by phone at 812-855-1103 and online at https://www.iuauditorium.com/new0809/index.html.
