Class of 1949 Curator of Western Art after 1800

WHAT: Jenny McComas is the Class of 1949 Curator of Western Art After 1800 at the Indiana University Art Museum, and head of the museum's Nazi-Era Provenance Research Project. Her talk will focus on examples from the IU Art Museum's collection and the looting of art from Jewish collectors during World War II.

Model Checking and the Curse of Dimensionality

WHAT: Edmund Clarke, FORE Systems University Professor of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University, will discuss some recent approaches to the state explosion problem using compositional reasoning, abstract interpretation and statistical sampling techniques. Clarke will provide examples about how these techniques can be used to make model checking feasible for computer software and to understand molecular processes in systems biology.

Creator of 'Entourage' to speak at IU

WHAT: Doug Ellin, the man behind Entourage, will give students a behind-the-scenes look at the series. He will speak and answer questions about the Emmy-nominated HBO series he created, wrote and produced that spanned eight seasons.

Dissecting Reproductive Isolation in Nature: The Evolution of Mate Choice in Drosophila

WHAT: Kelly Dyer, University of Georgia, will discuss the patterns of mate choice within, and behavioral isolation between, the closely related species Drosophila subquinaria and D. recens.

Where Do Bugs Go in Winter?
WHEN: 11 a.m. to 12:;30 p.m. Dec. 10
WHERE: Science Central, 1950 N. Clinton, Fort Wayne, Ind.
WHAT: This session will involve students exploring where and how insects live over the winter. Jordan Marshall, assistant professor of biology, will describe the different ways insects deal with cold temperatures. Students can then look for over-wintering insects in samples of seeds, fruits, sticks, logs and soil.
COST: $16 for nonmembers and $10 for members of Science Central. Lunch is included in the price of admission.
