IU Alumni Association expands Hoosier Village, the "ultimate IU tailgate destination"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aug. 27, 2009

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Football season means tailgate season -- and where better to tailgate before all Indiana University home football games than at the ultimate IU tailgate destination, Hoosier Village?

Hoosier Village

Hoosier Village

Located adjacent to the DeVault Alumni Center at 1000 E. 17th St., across from Assembly Hall and Memorial Stadium on the IU Bloomington campus, Hoosier Village has expanded and improved for the 2009 football season. Hoosier Village can provide fans with a tailgate party, or enhance their tailgate favorites. Starting two to five hours before each home football game, Hoosier Village will feature live music, food and beverage vendors, game-day apparel, merchandise, special promotions, giveaways, a kids zone and much more.

Tailgaters will be able to park inside Hoosier Village to take full advantage of all that Hoosier Village has to offer. Vehicles can enter Hoosier Village from the north on 17th Street and from the south on 14th Street. Parking at Hoosier Village will cost $15, the same cost as other lots adjacent to Memorial Stadium. IU season-ticket parking passes will also be accepted.

Hoosier Village is a pre-game tailgate area only. Fans are encouraged to come early, tailgate, enjoy the fun, then head to the game shortly before kickoff.

"Hoosier Village is truly a tailgate destination for alumni and fans of all ages," said Mark Skirvin, senior director of alumni outreach with the Indiana University Alumni Association. "With the help of IU Athletics, the IU Alumni Association has expanded the footprint of Hoosier Village this year so that it includes most of the grass fields south of Memorial Stadium. We'll have live music each week, areas for people to tailgate or purchase food, fun and unique promotions, and games prior to kickoff. We'll even have a game-day rally for Homecoming on Oct. 17."

Hoosier Village kicks off at 5 p.m. on Sept. 3, prior to IU's first home game as the Hoosiers take on Eastern Kentucky. Special events for the first Hoosier Village of the season include live music by Dot Dot Dot on the Hoosier Village stage, special game-day apparel and merchandise from T.I.S. Bookstore and the IU Varsity Shop, and other Hoosier football related giveaways and prize drawings.

The IU Alumni Association will offer a special Hoosier Village tailgate party under the tents behind the DeVault Alumni Center before each game. The public is welcome to attend, but advance reservations for this portion of Hoosier Village are requested. Reservations can be made on the IU Alumni Association's Web site at https://alumni.indiana.edu/reserve/village/.

The site also has IU's home football game schedule. Game tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 866-IUSPORTS, online at www.iuhoosiers.com, or at a special IU Athletics ticket booth inside Hoosier Village.

Hoosier Village is sponsored by the IU Alumni Association and IU Athletics. The IU Alumni Association is dedicated to serving the university and its diverse alumni, students and friends. As one of the nation's largest alumni organizations, serving more than 528,000 graduates worldwide, the IUAA provides many programs and services to its members, nonmember alumni and the university.
