Jim Barnes appointed chair of EPA’s Environmental Financial Advisory Board

A. James Barnes, professor at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University and adjunct professor in the School of Law, became the new chair of the Environmental Financial Advisory Board of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency last month. "I am pleased to have this opportunity to continue to contribute in a significant way to the cause of environmental protection in this country," Barnes said. "From the perspective of Indiana University, my role on EFAB accords me an opportunity to bring knowledge of cutting edge problems and innovative solutions into my classes at IU -- and the contacts I make and maintain with the agency and other members of the board often are useful in helping place IU students in jobs in the environmental field."   Full Story >>

Richard DiMarchi is CICP's Innovator of the Year

The Central Indiana Corporate Partnership has named Indiana University Bloomington Chemistry Chair Richard DiMarchi its 2005 Innovator of the Year, an honor intended to recognize Indiana University scientists who have successfully transformed promising technologies into marketable products. DiMarchi's latest invention is an synthetic analog of the human hormone glucagon. Unlike natural glucagon, this glucagon analog has much improved physical and chemical properties. It dissolves easily and maintains its structural integrity over extended periods at room temperature. DiMarchi and colleagues envision a synthetic glucagon analog that is formulated for portable and immediate use in a pen-sized injector similar to those commonly used for insulin administration.   Full Story >>
