Kathleen Claussen, a senior at Indiana University Bloomington, has been named one of 12 national recipients of the 2006-07 George J. Mitchell Scholarship. The fourth IU student to be named a Mitchell Scholar, Claussen will seek a graduate degree in international politics at Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Sharon Stephens Brehm, professor of psychology at Indiana University Bloomington and former IUB chancellor, has been elected president of the American Psychological Association, the largest association for psychologists in the world. Brehm was elected by the voting membership, which includes more than half of the 155,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students who make up the organization.
Indiana University professor Kirsten Grønbjerg is the recipient of the 2005 Award for Distinguished Achievement and Leadership in Nonprofit and Voluntary Action Research from the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action. Grønbjerg is a professor at the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs and is Efroymson Chair in Philanthropy at the Center on Philanthropy at IU.

Charles Beeker, director of the Office of Underwater Science and the Academic Diving Program at Indiana University Bloomington, has been appointed to a four-year term on the Marine Protected Areas Federal Advisory Committee. Beeker is an internationally recognized pioneer in the creation of underwater museum exhibits. Many of his research projects have resulted in the establishment of state or federal underwater parks and preserves, and have led to a number of site nominations to the National Register of Historic Places.
