FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Feb. 19, 2010

KOKOMO, Ind. -- The Indiana University Board of Trustees today (Feb. 19) approved residency hall rates for 2010-11 at all campuses with student housing. The action was taken at its regularly scheduled business meeting at the IU Kokomo campus.

At IU Bloomington, where some 11,700 students live in student housing, the cost of the most commonly requested room and board package will move from $7,546 to $7,918, a 4.9 percent increase. This package includes an air-conditioned, two-bed room with Meal Plan C.

Patrick Connor, executive director of Residential Programs and Services, said the housing rate increase is a result of sharp increases in the cost of utilities and food as well as to help support on-going facility enhancements. He noted that among Big Ten schools this year, IU Bloomington's most common residence hall rate is 7.5 percent below the Big Ten average and ranks seventh-highest among Big Ten campuses.

At IUPUI, the most prevalent room rate will increase from $6,617 to $6,832, or 3.2 percent. In addition, as requested by residents, electrical billings will now be folded into the overall rate instead of being charged separately. This will increase the overall rate to $7,232.

At IU South Bend, the most prevalent room rate will increase from $6,288 to $6,508, or 3.5 percent.

At IU Southeast, the most prevalent room rate will increase from $5,630 to $5,685 or 1 percent.
