Mannheim Steamroller

This year is the band's 25th anniversary of its holiday show, which will feature Mannheim Steamroller's popular Christmas music along with state-of-the-art multimedia effects in the intimate setting of IU Auditorium.

Composer-creator Chip Davis started Mannheim Steamroller more than 30 years ago with his Grammy Award-winning "Fresh Aire" series. In addition to albums, the entrepreneurial Davis has created a Mannheim Steamroller gourmet food line, apparel and a new audio technology that helps hospital patients in the recovery process.

In 1984, Mannheim Steamroller released Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, an album of Christmas music combining the group's signature mix of renaissance instruments with rock 'n roll beats. The album sold more than 35 million copies and propelled Mannheim Steamroller to become the No. 1-selling Christmas music group of all time. The band is also one of the top 50 best-selling artists of the last two decades.

"Mannheim Steamroller Christmas brings together some of the most loved Christmas music," said Doug Booher, director of IU Auditorium. "Seeing this world-class group in concert at IU is the perfect time for friends and family to come together to celebrate the sounds of the season."

Davis founded the record label American Gramaphone in 1974. He has since released more than 40 albums on American Gramaphone, which Billboard has ranked as the No. 1 independent label.

Mannheim Steamroller participated in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (Sunday, Nov. 28) with a float featuring the nature of South Dakota, where the group filmed Holiday Celebration on Ice.
