Kiplinger's continues to identify IU as a 'best value"
For the second straight year, Indiana University is among the top 30 in Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine's rankings of the "100 Best Values in Public Colleges." IU, which ranks 30th overall, was third among Big Ten universities. The rankings, which recognize public colleges and universities that "deliver a stellar education at an affordable price," will appear in the magazine's February issue hitting newsstands today (Jan. 4). Film Festival to highlight social, economic needs of Haiti one year after devastating earthquake
The festival will commemorate the anniversary of the Jan. 12, 2010, earthquake that devastated Port-au-Prince and other communities in Haiti, leaving 1.5 million people homeless. Bloomington's first Haiti Film Festival is a joint project between Kat Forgacs, an IU graduate student in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology and founder of Bloomington for Haiti, and Lillian Casillas, director of La Casa. As the new year begins, Jupiter will be the only planet visible after sunset, about halfway up the sky in the south-southwest. It will dominate the evening sky as the brightest object in view. Indiana CTSI starts new collaboration with Australian National University
A new collaboration between the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) and Australian National University (ANU) is expected to create a new master's degree program in translational science, study abroad opportunities for students and joint research programs that draw on the strengths of ANU and Indiana University. Contemporary dance masterpieces from the 1980s will be performed by Indiana University dance majors in the upcoming Contemporary Masters, the annual faculty/guest artist concert presented by the Indiana University departments of Kinesiology and Theatre and Drama. Read the complete story.

IU and Purdue make list of best valued public colleges
WNDU.com, Jan. 6 -- If your child is graduating high school soon, they might want to consider some area colleges. Two universities in the Hoosier state made it into Kiplinger's Top 100 Public Colleges for the Best Value. Indiana University in Bloomington is ranked 30th. The school's four-year graduation rate is about 53 percent and costs about $17,800 in-state. Full story.

IU Gastroenterologist Says Colonoscopy Can Be a Viable Tool for CRC Prevention
Beckersasc.com, Dec. 29 -- Douglas Rex, MD, a professor of medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine and director of endoscopy at Indiana University Hospital, shares his thoughts on colonoscopy as a promising tool for the diagnoses and prevention of colorectal cancer, according to an article published in Gastroenterology. Indiana University envisions high-tech corridor
Chicago Tribune, Dec. 25 -- Indiana University leaders hope that its concentration of new high-tech facilities will form the core of a research park and attract new businesses. The university's new master plan for the research park corridor along the Indiana 45/46 bypass on the northeast side of the Bloomington campus has about 1 million square feet of possible space for development. Vegetarian diet better for kidney disease
UPI.com, emaxhealth.com, Dec. 27, 25 -- Dr. Sharon Moe of Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis says patients with kidney disease cannot rid their bodies of phosphorus - and need to watch their intake of the mineral found in proteins because high levels can cause heart disease -- but phosphorus content is not listed on food labels.
