Women in Science conference at IU Bloomington sets attendance record
Indiana University scientists in training will present the fruits of their undergraduate and graduate research projects this Friday (March 4), at the 13th Women in Science Program Conference, an annual event that supports women who are considering careers in science, social science or mathematics. FTC chairman to speak at IU Maurer School of Law
The chairman of the Federal Trade Commission will deliver a lecture at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law on Thursday, March 3, at 12:15 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. The lecture is titled "Public Sector Lawyering: A Conversation with FTC Chair Jon Leibowitz," and is one of a series sponsored by the law school's Center for Intellectual Property Research. Softball: Just as they have all season, the Indiana softball team (5-7) put forth an outstanding effort against a ranked opponent, but this time the 14th ranked California Golden Bears (6-1) scored twice in the eighth and once in the ninth to hand the Hoosiers a 4-3 loss in nine innings. Men's Tennis: Indiana men's tennis lost at No. 25 Vanderbilt on Friday. The Hoosiers fell by a 7-0 score, dropping to 9-4 on the season. Read the match notes.
Baseball: The Indiana University baseball team (2-2) handed Texas A&M Corpus Christi (5-1) its first loss of the season Friday night, topping the Islanders by a final score of 14-3. Read the game notes.

Women's Water Polo: The Indiana Hoosiers women's water polo team put together a complete effort in dismantling Santa Clara, 9-3, to conclude play at the Rodeo on Sunday. Read the match notes.
Baseball: A three-run eighth inning for Oregon State (4-3) doomed the Hoosier baseball team (3-3) Sunday afternoon, falling short, 7-5. Read the game notes.
Women's Basketball: Indiana shot a season-best 52.4 percent from the field, but Iowa countered with its own hot shooting as the Hawkeyes picked up the win in Bloomington. Read the game notes.

New Technologies Presented in Evansville
InsideINdianaBusiness.com Report, Feb. 28 -- A technology for robotic machines and a social media program are some of the innovations presented at the Southwest Indiana Technology Showcase in Evansville. The program is held annually by Purdue University and Indiana University to launch technologies that were developed through university research and have commercialization potential. Full story.

Experts say marriage good for health
Courierpress.com, Feb. 27 -- There are many studies that indicate married men live longer and better than their single counterparts. James Burg, an associate professor at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne has written an article citing some of the research. In his article, he states that, "Marriage increases life expectancy, lowers a cancer patient's risk of dying from the disease, lowers a surgical patient's risk of dying in the hospital, strengthens the immune system, decreases rates of schizophrenia, alcoholism and suicide, improves sex life, both frequency and quality." The Indianapolis Star, March 1 -- IU Business Conference on Friday will give awards to McClelland, four others Indianapolis Star, March 1 -- Five alumni of the Indiana University Kelley School of Business will be honored for their professional achievements during the 65th annual IU Business Conference on Friday. James M. McClelland, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana, will be named the 2011 Distinguished Entrepreneur of the year. Full story.

Hospital adding helipad near emergency department
Thestarpress.com, March 1 -- Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital will soon have a helipad to use in emergency situations. The helipad and a connected elevator are under construction over the west parking garage and should be completed by mid-March. Full story.
