Media Advisory: 65th Annual IU Business Conference is Friday in Indianapolis

Focus will be on the role of government intervention in a market-based economy

Editors: Arrangements have been made for print and electronic media covering Friday's (March 4) Indiana University Business Conference, "Rethinking the Relationship Between Business and Government: Free Markets and the Greater Good," at the Indiana Convention Center, 100 S. Capitol Ave. in Indianapolis.

The media is welcome to cover the entire program, which is presented by IU's Kelley School of Business.

Among those participating in a morning-long panel discussion on the role of government intervention in a market-based economy will be Charles Gassenheimer, chairman and chief executive officer of Ener1 Inc.; R. David Hoover, chairman and former CEO of Ball Corp.; Kevin T. Kabat, president and CEO of Fifth Third Bancorp; and Derica W. Rice, chief financial officer and executive vice president for global services at Eli Lilly and Co. Gerry Dick, host of "Inside Indiana Business," will moderate the discussion.

They will be joined by Diane C. Swonk, senior managing director and chief economist at Mesirow Financial, who will speak at lunch. Swonk, one of the most sought-after economists in the world, will be available for one-on-one media interviews Friday morning at the conference.

Six alumni also will be recognized at the conference. Being inducted into the Kelley School's Academy of Alumni Fellows are: Monika H. Kroener, president and founder of Crown Management Bloomington Inc., Bloomington, Ind.; Peter H. Kroener, chairman and chief executive officer of Crown Management Bloomington LLC, Bloomington, Ind.; Kathleen M. Pawlus, Americas vice chair and chief financial officer of Ernst & Young LLP, Chicago; and James C. Thyen, president and CEO of Kimball International Inc., Jasper, Ind.

The 2011 Distinguished Entrepreneur Award will be presented to James M. McClelland, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana Inc., Indianapolis.
