IU junior Kip Hutchins receives 2011 Beinecke Scholarship
Indiana University junior Kip Hutchins, 19, has been awarded a 2011 Beinecke Scholarship that he can apply to the graduate school of his choice. Hutchins plans to use the award to further his Mongolian studies following his projected May 2012 graduation. Read the complete story.

Indiana University to host free e-waste recycling events
Indiana University will host its third annual Electronic Waste Collection Days, providing free e-waste recycling for schools, businesses, nonprofit organizations and the general public. The events will take place at various times and locations, and will provide free recycling collection services for items such as computer systems and accessories, phones and handheld devices, audio and video equipment, and office electronics. Men's and Women's Track: The Hoosiers got big performances throughout the weekend to take the men's and women's titles at the Indiana Invitational. The women's meet came down to the final event, with the Hoosiers running away with the 4x400m relay for the win with 203.5 points, to Michigan State's 201. The men wrapped up the meet much earlier, taking 189 points, to MSU's 161. Read the meet notes.

Women's Golf: Rough conditions with cold temperatures, wind, rain, and later in the day thunder and hail, brought an early halt to the first day of the 2011 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. Read the tournament notes.
Men's Tennis: Indiana men's tennis fell for the first time in Big Ten play this season, losing 5-2 at No. 4 Ohio State. Read the match notes.
Men's and Women's Track: Indiana track and field had a solid second day at the Polytan Invitational, despite a four-hour lightning delay. Indiana posted five event wins on the day. Read the meet notes.

Women's Rowing: "In all five of the pieces done between the two schools, the racing was close and proved to be great experience for the upcoming conference championship season," said IU head coach Steve Peterson. Read the day's notes.
Women's Tennis: Indiana fell at home on Saturday afternoon to No. 62 Ohio State, 5-2. Read the match notes.
Softball: It might not have been the prettiest game that the Indiana Hoosiers (29-15, 9-2 Big Ten) have played this season but the bats came alive in the late innings in the 7-2 win against Michigan State. Read the game notes.
Baseball: Both Mother Nature and the Minnesota Golden Gophers wreaked havoc at Sembower Field on Saturday as the Hoosier Baseball squad was swept in a doubleheader that spanned over seven hours due to a 100-minute lighting delay in the middle of game one. Read the game notes.
Men's and Women's Track: Indiana track and field won 10 events on the final day of the Polytan Invitational, despite dealing with weather delays for the second-straight day of the three day meet. Read the meet notes.
Women's Golf: With 54 holes of the 2011 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships in the books, the Indiana women sit in sixth place with a score of 917 (305-302-310). Read the tournament notes.

Women's Tennis: Indiana sent its seniors out with a win over Penn State on Sunday afternoon, 6-1. Read the match notes.
Baseball: Minnesota: The Indiana University baseball team (25-15, 6-6 Big Ten) dropped a 5-2 decision Sunday afternoon to the Minnesota Golden Gophers (14-15, 6-6). Read the game notes.
Softball: The Hoosiers (30-15, 10-2 Big Ten) continued to swing the bats well and the steady pitching of Morgan Melloh all added up to a 4-2 win at Michigan State (21-20, 3-9 Big Ten) on Sunday to extend to a 10-game win streak, the longest such streak since 1994. Read the game notes.
Men's Tennis: The Hoosiers finish 9-1 for just the second time IU school history, matching the Hoosiers' 1991-92 season for the best conference record in IU lore. The win is IU's 22nd of the season, matching the most victories ever in one season by a Hoosier team. Read the match notes.
Women's Golf: The Indiana women's golf team posted a seventh-place finish at the 2011 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. The Hoosiers put up a final-round tally of 304 to finish with a 1221 (305-302-310-304). Read the tournament notes.

McRobbie relishes the glory of old IU
Indianapolis Star, April 24 -- Outside Michael McRobbie's office are the Sample Gates, the main entrance to Indiana University's Bloomington campus. Every IU president since Herman B Wells has occupied the office in Bryan Hall. The office is where then-President Myles Brand offered McRobbie the position of vice president of information technology. McRobbie was named the university's 18th president in 2007.On his desk is a picture of Winston Churchill. McRobbie has read most, if not all, of the biographies written about Churchill."His career was extraordinary," he said. Other than personal photos and mementos, McRobbie has kept his office much the same as his predecessors. His favorite items are pictures with his wife. Full story.

Coal Free IU finances 8 solar panels at IMU
Indiana Daily Student, April 26 -- Eight solar panels producing two kilowatts of clean energy were installed on the roof of the Indiana Memorial Union on Thursday. The panels are each 250 watts and are located on the left side of the Whittenberger Auditorium entrance, said Jill Minor, Mann Plumbing Inc. solar website designer and School of Public and Environmental Affairs dual masters candidate.
