Hoosiers win streak reaches 12 games following DH sweep at Illinois

URBANA, Ill. - The Indiana Hoosiers (32-15, 12-2 Big Ten) swept both games of a doubleheader on Thursday at Eichelberger Field in Urbana, Ill. The Hoosiers claimed a 8-0 win in six innings in game one and then held on for a 3-1 victory in game two. Morgan Melloh (27-14) went the distance in the circle both games, combining for 21 strikeouts and allowing just four combined hits.

The 12-game win streak continues to be the longest since the 1994 season. But the 11 consecutive conference victories in the longest such streak in program history.

Melloh has 162 strikeouts in Big Ten games this season, the third-best single-season total in conference history. And her 418 strikeouts on the season are the fourth-most ever by a Big Ten pitcher in a single season.

In game one, Melloh fanned 11 and gave up just one hit while also driving in a pair of runs at the plate. Sara Olson delivered the biggest blow with a three-run double as part of the six-run sixth inning. Cassie Gogreve capped the inning with a two-run single. Ashley Warrum reached base four times in the game - two hits and two walks.

Game two saw Warrum drive in a pair of runs with a bases loaded walk and a triple. Sara Olson drove in the other run for the Hoosiers when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. She has now been hit by pitch 16 times this season and 10 times in Big Ten play.

Indiana will host Iowa this weekend at the IU Softball Field. Saturday's game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. and will be the "Pink Game" to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness while also being aired on BigTenNetwork.com. Sunday's contest will also start at 1:00 p.m.
