Hoosiers post fifth place finish at Big Ten Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team finished fifth at the 2011 Big Ten Championships after a 6-over 294 (298-298-302-294---1192) in the final round at the Kampen Course on Sunday.
Illinois captured the team title with an 8-over 1160, followed by Northwestern ( 27), Iowa ( 29), Ohio State ( 38), and the Hoosiers ( 40).
Luke Guthrie of Illinois won individual medalist honors with a 1-under 287 total.
Chase Wright had the lowest round by a Hoosier in this year's event, carding a 3-under 69 (74-74-75-69---292) to finish in a tie for fifth. Wright's final round began with a bang, as the junior recorded three birdies in his first six holes. He finished with five birdies on the day. Wright has a team-high four top-5 finishes in 2011.
Fellow junior David Erdy had a rough final round, posting a 7-over 79 (73-72-74-79---298), but the Boonville, Ind. native did register a 20th place finish, which is his 9th top-25 showing of the season.
Corey Ziedonis notched his third 2-over 74 (74-74-77-74---299) of the tournament and finished tied for 21st. Ziedonis' final round included four birdies, with three coming on the front side.
Brant Peaper (77-78-76-78---309) and David Mills (78-80-80-73---311) rounded out the Indiana lineup for the weekend. Peaper ended in a tie for 41st, while Mills' roller coaster final round put him in a tie for 43rd. Mills' card featured six birdies, en route to his 1-over Sunday total.
