Hoosiers Bow Out of NCAA Tournament with loss to Illinois State

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Indiana Hoosiers ended their season with a 3-1 loss to the Illinois State Redbirds on Saturday at the Columbia (Mo.) Regional. The Hoosiers final record stands at 37-18, it's best finish since 1996.
The Hoosiers scored a run in the top of the first inning on a leadoff walk and stolen base by Breanna Saucedo. She moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and then came in to score on a RBI groundout.
The Redbirds got a run back in the bottom of the first on a solo home run by Abby Olson. Olson then tacked on the game-winning runs with a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Morgan Melloh (32-17) finished the year with 494 strikeouts to set new Indiana and Big Ten records as well as a personal season best. Her career total of 1632 stands as the 9th most in the NCAA career strikeout list.
