IU Open Systems Lab contributes to ranking world's top performing supercomputers
When the Intrepid and Jugene supercomputers earned the top two honors in last month's Graph 500 ranking of the world's best performing supercomputers, researchers from the IU Open Systems Lab (OSL) had good reason to cheer. Read the complete story.

IU admits largest class of Herbert Presidential Scholars with average GPA of more than 4.0
This fall, Indiana University will welcome its seventh and largest class of Adam W. Herbert Presidential Scholars. Of the 76 new scholars, 55 will enter IU Bloomington with 15 enrolled at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, two at IU South Bend, and one each at IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest and IU Southeast. It seems we may have parasites to thank for the existence of sex as we know it. Indiana University biologists have found that, although sexual reproduction between two individuals is costly from an evolutionary perspective, it is favored over self-fertilization in the presence of coevolving parasites. IU releases blueprint for regional campuses to collaborate
Newsandtribune.com, July 5 -- A new strategic planning process between Indiana University's regional campuses means more opportunities for its students. Sue Giesecke, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs at IU Kokomo, said the new Blueprint for Student Attainment, released in June, provides a way for the regional campus leaders to collaborate to make the campuses stronger as a whole, while maintaining individual identities. IU Health Expanding
InsideINdianaBusiness.com Report, July 5 -- Indiana University Health is opening a new building in Morgan County. Cornerstone Companies Inc. in Mooresville will own, develop and manage the building that will provide radiology and lab services. Full story.

Where health, science intersect
The Indianapolis Star, July 4 -- Indiana University School of Medicine pediatricians had been collecting data on children's lead levels. An IUPUI earth scientist had been studying the conditions that raise the risk of human lead contamination. But until a pediatrician attended a presentation by the researcher, the two didn't know how relevant each study was to the other. Full story.

Lincoln Foundation Awards Education Grants
InsideINdianaBusiness.com Report, July 5 -- Lincoln Financial Foundation has awarded more than $600,000 in education grants to 20 nonprofit organizations in the Fort Wayne area. The group says it has allocated $2.5 million in funds in 2011. Full story.
