An IU School of Dentistry professor played a leading role in developing the "gold standard" for analyzing fluoride and also chaired a panel of experts that helped set new government recommendations for the amount of fluoride to be put in drinking water in the United States to prevent tooth decay. The Regenstrief Foundation Inc. has awarded Indiana University's Center for Law, Ethics, and Applied Research in Health Information a $425,000 grant that will help the center fulfill its mission of addressing critical ethical and legal challenges surrounding health information. Inside INdiana Business, July 25 -- Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences has named Political Science Professor Jean Robinson executive associate dean. She has been serving as associate dean since 2008. Full story.

A Little Rusty?
New York Times, July 22 -- The reality may be more nuanced, but most graduate schools are officially unmoved by the older applicant's circumstances. "What we're trying to do is assess whether the student is going to be successful in the classroom with his fellow graduate students," says James C. Wimbush, dean of the Indiana University Graduate School and chairman-elect of the G.R.E. board of directors. "We need the score to be comparable to the other students'. We've found that the skills that are tested predicted critical success." Full story.
