The Perry Encounter

WHAT: In 1853, on behalf of President Fillmore, Commodore Matthew Calbraith Perry of the U.S. Navy steamed into Uraga Harbor near modern-day Tokyo, demanding that Japan open its ports to Western traders. Visit a special installation of 11 prints illustrating this historic event.

She-Devils and Heroines: The Power of Women in Netherlandish Prints

WHAT: Beautiful to see as well as to hear, these meticulously crafted instruments represent the musical heritage of the cultures along the Silk Road -- a historic trade route that spanned from China across Asia and all the way to North Africa.

The Spoils of War: Art in Nazi Germany

The Graphics of Revolution and War: Iranian Poster Arts

WHAT: This exhibition showcases Iranian posters of the Islamic Revolution (1979) and the Iran-Iraq War (1980-88). During this time, posters served as visual mechanisms through which a young and unsteady nation struggled to define and defend itself.

WHAT: Len Prince is a New York-based photographer who has produced a range of work in a career that spans more than four decades. He excels at portraiture and is especially known for his work with celebrities such as Debbie Harry, Eddie Izzard and Drew Barrymore. His striking photographs of the nude figure display his skill with composition and lighting.

WHAT: Sophisticated, sassy, sizzling percussion drawing music from such unlikely sources as hubcaps and paint cans, work boots and tractor tires, the off-Broadway phenomenon STOMP is back and revitalized -- with plenty of new sounds to please the ears. Co-created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, it has exploded in popularity from the time of its humble beginnings as a street show in the U.K.
