Violist Edward Gazouleas appointed to IU Jacobs School of Music faculty

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music is pleased to announce that violist Edward Gazouleas will join its faculty as professor of music this fall, pending approval of the Trustees of Indiana University.
"The String Department is excited to welcome Ed Gazouleas to the Jacobs School string faculty," said Stephen Wyrczynski, professor of viola and Jacobs String Department chair. "He brings orchestral experience from one of the most celebrated orchestras of the world, complemented by his extensive solo and chamber music skills."

Gazouleas currently holds the Lois and Harlan Anderson Chair in the Boston Symphony viola section and is on the faculties of Boston University College of Fine Arts, the New England Conservatory of Music and the Tanglewood Music Center.
An active recitalist and chamber music player, Gazouleas has appeared recently with the Boston Artists Ensemble, the Boston Symphony Chamber Players and contemporary music group Collage. He performs frequently as a viola and piano duo with Pei-Shan Lee.
He was a prize winner at the International String Quartet Competition in Evian, France, and has performed with members of the Borromeo, muir, Lydian and Audubon string quartets.
Gazouleas has held teaching positions at Boston Conservatory, Wellesley College and Temple University and was a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony under Lorin Maazel.
He attended Yale and is a graduate of the Curtis Institute, where he studied with Michael Tree and Karen Tuttle.
