IU Jacobs School of Music faculty and alumni contend for Grammys

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music continues to be a contender on the nominee list for the annual Grammy Awards, to be presented live on Feb. 10, 2013, on CBS by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.
Faculty members Washington McClain and Kris Kwapis played baroque oboe and baroque trumpet, respectively, in the Trinity Baroque Orchestra on "Handel: Israel in Egypt," which is up for Best Choral Performance. The recording also features the Trinity Choir Wall Street.
Alumnus Eric Guinivan, B.M.'06 in both composition and percussion performance, received two nominations as a founding member of the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet. The group's "Rupa-Khandha" release -- which features a 20-minute work that Guinivan wrote for the quartet -- vies for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance and Best Surround Sound Album.
The recording's producers -- Marina Ledin and Victor Ledin - are nominated for Producer of the Year, Classical.
Superstar alumnus trumpeter Chris Botti's latest effort, "Impressions," contends for Best Pop Instrumental Album this year. With a cluster of Grammy nominations and numerous other honors, Botti has become the world's largest-selling jazz instrumentalist.
"The Goat Rodeo Sessions" -- a collaboration featuring famed alumnus bassist Edgar Meyer with Yo-Yo Ma, cello; Stuart Duncan, fiddle; and Chris Thile, mandolin - competes for two of the coveted awards - Best Folk Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.
