BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Singing Hoosiers will perform their first spring concert with new director Steve Zegree at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at the IU Auditorium.

The 63rd annual family friendly spring event will open with a unique number written, arranged, produced and choreographed by members of the group, followed by compositions of Hoagy Carmichael, Cole Porter, Billy Joel, Mozart and others, showcasing up-tempo choreography and a high-energy style.

"The students have written, arranged, produced, choreographed and costumed two production medleys that are not only funny and clever, but musically represent all styles and genres," said Zegree, Pam and Jack Burks Professor of Music in his first year on the Jacobs School of Music faculty. "I am extremely proud of the talent and dedication of the students in the group. The concert will include a combination of traditional Singing Hoosiers repertoire plus new music they've never before performed."

The Hoosiers will be joined by the IU African American Choral Ensemble on a piece composed and conducted by its director, Raymond Wise -- a visiting faculty member who is world renowned as a gospel writer, performer and director.

The two groups will then perform a piece co-composed and conducted by new Jacobs faculty member Ly Wilder, adjunct lecturer in jazz voice and Singing Hoosiers assistant director.

"The Battle Hymn of the Republic" -- guest conducted by former director Michael Schwartzkopf -- in which Singing Hoosier alumni will join the current ensemble on stage, will be a special highlight of the show.

Reserved seating tickets are $15 to $20 for adults and $5 for students. For more information, call the IU Auditorium Box Office at 812-855-1103, Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000, or visit iuauditorium.com.
