Bayless receives Office of Women's Affairs athletics award
Kathy Bayless, director of the Division of Campus Recreational Sports in Indiana University Bloomington's School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, received the IU Office of Women's Affairs 11th annual Award for Support of Women's Athletics.
This award honors a faculty or staff member on the IUB campus who has worked to encourage women's athletic and academic excellence at IU. Major consideration is given to individuals who currently give generously of their time and energy to support greater athletic opportunities for women.
Bayless was nominated by David Gallahue, dean, and Jerry Wilkerson, executive associate dean of HPER. During Bayless' leadership, IU was declared in the 2003 Sports Illustrated on Campus to have probably the "best recreational sports program in the country." Through this program, Bayless has provided women with important leadership roles and has moved forward meaningful student engagement and decision-making in all aspects of campus recreational sports and programming.
The award was presented at HPER's National Girls and Women in Sports dinner on Feb. 17. Bayless also was recognized at the IU Women's basketball game the following Sunday.
