Elmore gift funds entrepreneurship law clinic scholarships at IU -- Two Indiana University alumni are infusing their entrepreneurial successes into a two-year-old J.D./M.B.A. clinical program at IU and have made a $3 million gift to the IU School of Law-Bloomington to fund scholarships for Entrepreneurship Law Clinic students, joint J.D./M.B.A. candidates and students demonstrating a strong interest in business law. IU Simon Cancer Center's 'Celebration of Life' is May 29 and 30 -- Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center will honor its patients and families May 29 and 30 at its annual National Cancer Survivors' Day event, "Celebration of Life." This two-day celebration is hosted by the cancer center's CompleteLife program and includes a health fair on both days from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Educational exhibits by CompleteLife as well as local cancer organizations on cancer support services and performances by local musicians will be part of the event each day. IU Trustees set tuition rates for next two years -- Indiana University trustees Monday took a major step toward their goal of significantly improving Indiana University's competitive status among America's major research universities. Trustees approved a schedule of tuition and fees for the next two academic years that President Adam W. Neurologist Named Third Director of Indiana University School of Medicine-Fort Wayne -- Fen-Lei Chang, M.D., Ph.D., has been named assistant dean and director and a professor of neurology of the Indiana University School of Medicine-Fort Wayne. IU and Microsoft to bridge communications systems; Industry-wide support for Microsoft unified communications software brings flexibility and cost savings to IU -- Tuesday at Interop Las Vegas 2007, Microsoft Corp. and 12 industry leaders announced plans to make it easier for Indiana University to protect and extend its communications investments. These industry leaders are extending their support for unified communications software from Microsoft by implementing the company's interoperability specification for Microsoft® Office Communications Server 2007. This broad interoperability will help IU deploy software-based unified communications and cost-effectively adapt to voice and data network convergence. Read the complete story.

Iraqi U.N. diplomat to teach at IU
Northwest Indiana Times, May 22 -- A former Valparaiso lawyer now serving as Iraq's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations said abandoning efforts for freedom in Iraq would be a failure for vital U.S. interests. Feisal Istrabadi, a region resident from 1988 to 2004, made the comments Monday after his appointment as a visiting professor at Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington. Local tapped to head city's IU medical hub
Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, May 23 -- A local neurologist is taking the reins as director of the Indiana University School of Medicine-Fort Wayne as the program looks to expand in years and students. In addition to director, Dr. Fen-Lei Chang has been named assistant dean and a professor of neurology at the school, which is one of eight regional campuses outside IU medical school's home base in Indianapolis. What the Mainstream Media Can Learn from Jon Stewart
American Journalism Review, June/July issue -- Julia R. Fox, who teaches telecommunications at Indiana University, and two graduate students announced the results of the first scholarly attempt to compare Stewart's show with traditional TV news as a political information source. Their study, which will be published this summer by the Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, examined substantive political coverage in 2004 of the first presidential debate and political conventions on "The Daily Show" and the broadcast television networks' nightly newscasts. Time to talk to students about harassment
Kennebec Journal/Morning Sentinel, May 23 -- On Friday, 30 Skowhegan Area High School students were suspended for three days for refusing to go to classes because they felt administrators weren't responding to their complaints that they were being harassed in the hallways. Russell Skiba, professor in the school psychology program at Indiana University, compared bullying and harassment to the tinder needed to start a fire: By itself harassment may not cause a violent incident, but its presence vastly increases the chance of something tragic happening.
