School of Optometry eyes the future -- President Michael McRobbie will host a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction of the School of Optometry's new Eye Care Clinic. Indiana University teams with Church & Dwight to improve the nation's sexual health -- To address critical sexual health issues facing citizens across the United States, the Center for Sexual Health Promotion in Indiana University's School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation has entered into a unique 3-year agreement with one of the world's leading sexual health products companies, Church & Dwight, maker of Trojan brand condoms. The agreement establishes the IU center as a strategic research, education and consulting partner with Trojan. Read the complete story.

Grant to provide incentive in field of gerontology -- The Indiana University School of Social Work has been awarded a $75,000 Practicum Partnership Program grant that will serve as an incentive to attract graduate students to the field of geriatrics and gerontology. For the first time, graduate students in the school's Master of Social Work program interested in practicum placements with agencies that care for the aged will be eligible for a $2,500 stipend. Chinese ambassador to U.S. to speak in Indianapolis on Feb. 22 -- Zhou Wenzhong, China's ambassador to the United States, will speak Friday, Feb. 22, at the University Conference Center at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Results from Friday, Jan. 25:
Men's Tennis: The Indiana University men's tennis team earned two more 7-0 victories on Friday, downing Eastern Kentucky and Indiana State. In four dual matches this week, the Hoosiers dropped just one match, a doubles contest. Read the match notes.
Wrestling: Brandon Becker topped the second-ranked wrestler in the country while Angel Escobedo moved his season record to a perfect 19-0 during Friday night's match against No. 13 Wisconsin (10-2-1, 1-1). No. 17 Indiana (11-3, 0-1) split the win total, taking five of the individual bouts, but fell in the total team score, 20-15. Read the match notes.

Women's Swimming: A dominating performance with 11 individual and relay victories propelled the Indiana women's swimming and diving team to a 186-114 win over in-state rival Purdue Saturday afternoon in West Lafayette, Ind. Read the meet notes.

Students design rooms; 20 from IUPUI contribute their work to a centerpiece home for event at fairgrounds
Indianapolis Star, Jan. 28 -- The main attraction of the Indianapolis Home Show this year added a new feature: student designers. A group of 20 interior design students from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis designed rooms for a centerpiece home at the show, which kicked off this weekend at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Medical News TODAY, Jan. 28 -- In a novel manner which gives new meaning to the word transformative, researchers from the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center are integrating some of the best practices of industry into the strengths of the academic research process to propel the development of innovative cancer treatments from the bench to the bedside. Business Week, Jan. 28 -- Forget focus groups. Companies that want feedback on a product are getting inside consumers' heads -- literally. Jeffrey Bardzell is a professor of informatics, or the study of how we collect and use information, at Indiana University. He says any neuroscientific measure, taken alone, "is unreliable." That's why he combines them with other data. Funded in part by One to One Interactive, a Boston marketing consultancy, Bardzell's team is preparing tests to compare EEG signals from the brain with data pouring from other sensors, including galvanic skin responses, blood pressure, eye movement, and heart beat.
