Calligraphy
Xing Zhou, an Indiana University professor, teaches a calligraphy class Jan. 18,2011, at the Asian Culture Center.
Participants learned the basics of writing characters on large pieces of parchment.
Zhou showed participants several different styles of Chinese calligraphy, including different characters that he called the equivalent of 'cursive' or more formal scripts.
Professor Zhou wrote on rice paper with special ink made from soot.
Zhou demonstrated the basic strokes and how they are used to create the thousands of characters used by expert calligraphers.
