IU Athletics first among Big Ten schools in two EPA Gameday Challenge categories

Memorial Stadium IU Athletics announced today, Feb. 1, that the department finished first among Big Ten schools in two categories in the EPA Gameday Challenge. IU's results were tabulated during the Oct. 29 IU-Northwestern football game. IU received top honors in the greenhouse gas reduction and recycling categories and finished fourth in the diversion rate Category. Among 50 participating schools, IU ranked in the top 25 in all three categories. Participation was part of the Greening Cream and Crimson initiative, an ongoing effort by IU Athletics to promote sustainable policies and decrease its environmental impact.  Full Story

Bayer runs fastest mile in the U.S. this season

A week after running the second-best 3,000 meter in the world this season, Andy Bayer made more noise on the track at the Indiana Relays Jan. 27-28 in Bloomington. He turned in the fastest mile by an American and by a collegiate this season, breaking four minutes in the mile for the third time in his career at Indiana University.

Men's tennis hammers Notre Dame

Indiana men's tennis (3-1) ran through No. 28 Notre Dame on Jan. 28, advancing in the ITA Kickoff at Ohio State. The Hoosiers swept doubles play and took all but one singles match.

Hoosiers ink 25 on National Signing Day

Indiana head football coach Kevin Wilson announced Wednesday, Feb. 1 the signing of 25 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play for the Hoosiers in 2012.

IU fans encouraged to vote for Victor Oladipo's dunk for Dunk of the Year

Indiana sophomore guard Victor Oladipo's slam over Kentucky's Darius Miller on Dec. 10 is nominated for the Dunk of the Year, Intersport announced Jan. 30. Each week for four weeks, six rim-rattling dunks will be nominated for Dunk of the Year. Two winners from each week will be determined by fan voting through the official Facebook page. The eight finalists will compete in a two-week voting competition to determine the Dunk of the Year.

Women's tennis scores home sweep

The Indiana University women's tennis team dominated in its dual match double-header Jan. 28 in Bloomington. The Hoosiers topped Western Michigan and Butler by a 7-0 margin in each match.

Water polo off to best start since 2004

The No. 9 Indiana Hoosier women's water polo team (5-2) knocked off a pair of ranked opponents to conclude play at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invite on Jan. 29, using clutch play late in both contests to defeat No. 19 Cal State Northridge, 8-7, and No. 17 UC Santa Barbara, 8-6, in overtime. The 5-2 Hoosiers are off to the best start for an IU team since the 2004 season.
