IU Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research expands leadership

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research at Indiana University today announced an expansion and restructuring of its leadership team.

Center Director Fred Cate said the leadership changes and an expansion of the center's activities result from a $15 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to Indiana University in November 2008. The grant funds the creation of the Pervasive Technology Institute, which includes CACR and two other IU research centers, the Digital Science Center and the Data to Insight Center.
"I couldn't ask for a better leadership team, and I am grateful that each of these individuals has agreed to take on these important roles," said Cate, who is also Distinguished Professor and C. Ben Dutton Professor of Law at the IU Maurer School of Law. He announced:
- Kay Connelly, IU assistant professor of computer science, will serve as senior associate director of CACR, helping provide greater coordination for all of CACR's activities and oversee its internal programs and its expanding work in health information security and privacy.
- Steven Wallace, director of Advanced Network Management Lab at IU, has joined CACR as an associate director. He will work to enhance cooperation between cybersecurity faculty, the lab and other IU resources (such as Internet2).
- William K. Barnett also has joined CACR as an associate director. Barnett is senior manager for life sciences in the Research Technologies office of IU's University Information Technology Services (UITS) and director of the Advanced IT Core in the IU School of Medicine.
- Mark Bruhn, IU associate vice president for information and infrastructure assurance, has assumed broader responsibilities as the CACR associate director responsible for interaction with IU technology, security and policy office and outreach to other colleges and universities.
- Scott Orr continues as the associate director responsible for relations between IU Bloomington and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
Founded in 2002, the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research works to enhance the security and integrity of information systems, technologies and content by facilitating research and education informed by, and integrated with, the practice of information assurance.
