Tony Award-winning Broadway producer, IU alumna, returns for workshops with students, public talk

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University's Department of Theatre and Drama will present a public talk by Harriet Newman Leve, a Tony Award-winning Broadway producer and an alumna of IU's School of Education, this Thursday (Oct. 22) at 5 p.m. in the Ruth N. Halls Theatre.

Leve will spend the day in workshops and discussions with current IU theater students. "We are pleased that she will be with us during a time that marks the commencement of the University Theatre renovation project," said Patricia Kennedy, arts administrator for the Department of Theatre and Drama.

Leve is currently producing the award-winning New York and national tour productions of STOMP, created and directed by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, and the critically acclaimed large format motion picture PULSE: A Stomp Odyssey. She is also currently producing Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps at the Helen Hayes Theater.

She is also co-producer of Burn The Floor, Broadway's new dance spectacular, and (with Elaine Krauss and Jennifer Manocherian) co-produced Raise the Roof Two and Superior Donuts, the newest play by Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts.

Leve's recent productions include the Tony Award-winning production of Alan Ayckbourn's The Norman Conquests at the Circle in the Square Theater; an off-Broadway production of Beebo Brinker Chronicles, based on the 1950s ground-breaking lesbian pulp novels by Ann Bannon; Broadway production of the National Theatre of Great Britain's Coram Boy, adapted by Helen Edmundson, from the novel by Jamila Gavin; the Tony-nominated Broadway production of Martin McDonagh's The Lieutenant of Inishmore; the Broadway production and national tour of Eve Ensler's The Good Body; the Off-Broadway production of Sherry Glaser's Family Secrets; the Off-Broadway production of the international hit musical Shockheaded Peter, the South African production of Jocasta Rising, written and directed by Carol Michele Kaplan; August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, directed by Marion McClinton and starring Whoopi Goldberg and Charles Dutton; Eve Ensler's Necessary Targets, directed by Michael Wilson and starring Shirley Knight and Diane Venora; the Tony-nominated Broadway production of Arthur Miller's The Crucible, directed by Richard Eyre and starring Liam Neeson and Laura Linney; and the Broadway production of Hedda Gabler, directed by Nicholas Martin and starring Kate Burton.

Other notable New York productions include the Tony Award-nominated Broadway production of The Diary of Anne Frank, directed by James Lapine and starring Natalie Portman and Linda Lavin; Alan Ayckbourn's Communicating Doors, directed by Christopher Ashley and starring Mary-Louise Parker, Patricia Hodges and David McCallum; and Alan Zweibel's BUNNY BUNNY Gilda Radner: A Sort of Romantic Comedy, directed by Christopher Ashley and starring Bruno Kirby and Paula Cale.
