College of Arts and Sciences Dean Bennett I. Bertenthal said, "Our annual banquet is one of the most momentous events of the year for the College. We are extremely proud of our faculty and our alumni, and having this opportunity to recognize and celebrate their achievements is immensely gratifying. Each one of this year's honorees has made great contributions, and their collective impact on our society is both impressive and inspiring."

Knauss is a member of the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Advisory Board and is also a great friend to the College's Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP) and a strong voice for the value of a liberal arts education.

Clorox is a leading manufacturer and marketer of consumer products with fiscal year 2008 revenues of nearly $5.3 billion. Under Knauss' leadership, the company has been positioned to focus on health and wellness, convenience, environmental sustainability and a more multicultural marketplace.

Despite a global economic downturn, Clorox has continued a 32-year trend of raising its dividend to stockholders. The company launched Green Works, a line of cleaning products that are 99 percent natural, in 2008. Newsweek recently called Clorox one of the "Greenest Big Companies in America."

Maultsby is professor in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology and director of the Archives of African American Music and Culture at Indiana University. She also is adjunct professor of African American and Africa Diaspora, American and African Studies. Among her many other achievements, Maultsby served as general consultant, artistic advisor and editorial assistant for "Honor! Festival Celebrating America's African American Roots" -- a two-week festival that celebrated African American music and culture, curated by soprano Jessye Norman and organized by Carnegie Hall in March 2009.
