Hoosiers for Higher Education plan Statehouse visit

More than 400 members of Hoosiers for Higher Education are expected to gather in Indianapolis on Feb. 23 for the group's annual Indiana Statehouse visit.

HHE members, faculty, staff and students, representing all eight Indiana University campuses and its Columbus location, will converge on the Statehouse to meet with local legislators and state elected officials to discuss higher education issues. About 45 legislators and elected officials are expected to participate.

"Our members will meet with their local representatives to outline how higher education has impacted their lives and the state of Indiana," said Kirk White, director of HHE. "We'll also request continued state support for university appropriations and student financial aid."

The day will begin with a legislative briefing at 10:30 a.m. in the Westin Hotel in Indianapolis. Participants then will walk to the Statehouse to pick up representatives for a noon luncheon at the hotel. IU President Adam W. Herbert will speak during the luncheon, and Miss Indiana Bryn Chapman, an IU student, will perform. HHE also will present the Welsh-Bowen Distinguished Public Official Award to an elected government official who has made significant contributions to higher education and Indiana University. Statehouse visits will continue in the afternoon.

Hoosiers for Higher Education is a statewide organization of more than 10,000 alumni, students, parents and friends of Indiana University who are dedicated to promoting higher education in Indiana. More information and registration for the event can be found at https://www.indiana.edu/~hhe/.
