African American Dance Company and Choral Ensemble to perform at the Indianapolis Artsgarden
Indiana University Bloomington's African American Arts Institute will be represented through the performances of two of its ensembles during the upcoming celebration of African American Art and Artists in Indiana at the Indianapolis Artsgarden.
As part of "Art & Soul at the Artsgarden," an annual celebration of African American art and artists that coincides with Black History Month, the African American Dance Company will be performing on Feb. 21 (Saturday) at 2 p.m. Under director Iris Rosa, the African American Dance Company has become noted for its high energy, rhythm, precision, grace and delivery of the spirit of dance styles of the African Diaspora.
The following weekend, the IU African American Choral Ensemble will share its broad repertoire of spirituals, folk, traditional and contemporary gospel music on Feb. 29 (Sunday) at 2 p.m. Guided by director James Mumford, the African American Choral Ensemble is composed of IU students who deliver the rich and varied traditions of African American choral music.
Both events are free and open to the public. The Indianapolis Artsgarden is located above the intersection of Washington and Illinois streets in downtown Indianapolis. For more information, please call the Indianapolis Artsgarden box office at 317-624-2565.
