The radio program "Sound Medicine" is produced by the IU School of Medicine and WFYI-FM and features information on a wide range of current issues in medicine and wellness. Tune in Saturday (April 24) when we learn about the relationship between cancer and fitness, and also "Our Town," a program for teenagers with mental illness. Researchers look for link between anti-aging and swimming
IU Bloomington researchers will assess swimmers at the United States Masters Swimming Short Course National Championship, April 22-25, as part of anti-aging research. Professor of Kinesiology Joel Stager will be able to discuss his research into anti-aging and also his statistical predictions for swim times at both the 2004 U.S. Olympic trials and the Olympics. Stager's approach to swim times has called into question claims of "fast" swimsuits in the past . Full Story
IU helps establish underwater shipwreck museum in Dominican Republic
Archaeologists from IU Bloomington are helping the government of the Dominican Republic open a second underwater museum featuring cannons, cannon balls, olive jar fragments and other items recovered from early 18th-century shipwrecks. Full Story
Professor wins award for prevention and control of chronic disease
Lloyd J. Kolbe, professor of applied health science at IU Bloomington, recently received the 2004 Award for Excellence in the Prevention and Control of Chronic Disease from the United States Chronic Disease Directors. This award recognizes distinguished service in reducing the nation's chronic disease burden. Full story

Tour Bloomington through the lens of the movie "Breaking Away"
An avid fan of cycling, Steve Tesich based his script for the 1979 Academy Award-winning film "Breaking Away" on his experiences as a student on the IU Bloomington campus. Today, as the film turns 25, bicyclists are a common sight on campus and in the community, and many of the settings for the film remain and can be easily located. This year's races are being held today and tomorrw (April 24-25) at Armstrong Stadium. Complete information about this year's Little 500 activities is available at IUSF's Web site. Full story
New director named for the Kinsey Institute
Julia R. Heiman, a leader in the evolving field of sex research, will become the sixth director of the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction at IU Bloomington. Heiman said she was attracted to the position in part because of the new opportunities for interdisciplinary research, particularly in the last decade, but also because of the institute's history and reputation for perseverance in the pursuit of groundbreaking research.
