Jazz from Bloomington, ArtsWeek 2010 to present The Brad Shepik Quintet April 20

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University's Arts Week 2010 concert with The Brad Shepik Quintet, which as originally scheduled for late February, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 20, at 7.30 pm. The concert will take place at KRC Catering, 216 S College.
The concert was rescheduled because of weather-related flight cancellations. All tickets purchased for the original February 26 concert date will be honored for the rescheduled date, or can be refunded through the Sunrise Box Office at 114 E. Kirkwood, 812-323-3020.
Attendees are invited to purchase an optional dinner buffet for $12 at the event. Advance tickets are $10 for Jazz from Bloomington members and $15 for the general public and can be purchased at Sunrise Box Office and www.buskirkchumley.org. Tickets will be available at the door for $15 Jazz from Bloomington members and $20 for the general public.
Shepik has been playing guitar since the age of 10. He played both guitar and saxophone in high school, later earning a B.F.A from Cornish College of the Arts and a master's degree in Jazz Performance/Composition from New York University. Since 1990, Shepik has been touring with numerous groups and teaches at the New England Conservatory.
He will be performing songs from his album Human Activity Suite, a compilation of 10 movements on the issue of climate change. With this album, which was supported by a grant from Chamber Music America, Shepik said he sought to produce an album that encompasses both the earth and the environment. Shepik will perform alongside trumpeter Ralph Alessi; IU Jacobs School of Music graduate Matt Mitchell, a pianist; Bloomington's own Matt Pavolka on bass; and drummer Michael Sarin.
An AllAboutJazz.com review of Human Activity Suite lauded the album for its uniqueness and innovation.
"A frequent use of modal underpinnings knits together Shepik's music, a sense of larger utilities under the detailed and sometimes fractured surfaces," wrote an AllAboutJazz.com reviewer in March 2009."It's an effective combination of extended composition and developed group dialogue."
