FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 8, 2010

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-- Indiana University's Union Board and Live from Bloomington will present the 25th annual Club Night, a two-day benefit concert that this year takes place April 15 (at The Bishop and The John Waldron Arts Center) and April 16 (at Max's Place and Rachael's Café).

Doors at all venues will open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 or $3 with a donation of two canned goods. Club Night features performances by 20 bands, all of which are featured on a compilation CD that will be available at each venue for $5. All proceeds from ticket and CD sales will go to Hoosier Hills Food Bank.

Caroline Shurig is a sophomore majoring in international studies who is this year's director of Live from Bloomington, one of Union Board's committees. Shurig said the bands selected to perform this year represent singer-songwriters and genres of music that include experimental jazz, rap, "new age opera," pop and rock. Participating bands were required to have at least one band member who is currently living in Bloomington or an IU student.

"Many of these groups play regularly in Bloomington and have significant fan bases, while others are in their earliest stages as musicians," said Shurig. "Live From Bloomington is an advocate for these musicians as they work to gain a larger audience and develop as bands."

The Live From Bloomington committee formed as a social entrepreneurship venture that advocated for both emerging musicians and the hungry, said Shurig.

"The founders were certainly trailblazers, as they gave musicians the rare opportunity to showcase their music and to professionally record their music," she said. "Billboard Magazine actually featured Live From Bloomington just a few years after it began, noting the commitment to emerging music and to Hoosier Hills Food Bank. Today, 25 years later, Indiana University is still one of the few schools to host a program that includes music and social advocacy in the way that Live From Bloomington does."

Thursday, April 15 (bands will perform in the order listed)

The Bishop: Gardendale & Berkeley, Spirit Spine, Varsouviana, Hot Mess and Andy D

The John Waldron Arts Center: Th' Empires, Hard Candy Hearts, Hail Architeuthis!, Applecore and Pantree Owl

Friday, April 16

Max's Place: Strictly Off the Record, Selfish Whales, The New Old Cavalry, Kentucky Nightmare and husband & wife

Rachael's Café: e.p. hall, Clouds As Oceans, Snaarji, Redbird and The Constants
