PTI's Data to Insight Center data management grant proposals due July 29
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 13, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Data to Insight (D2I) Center at Indiana University's Pervasive Technology Institute is soliciting proposals for research in data management at Indiana University Bloomington and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
Competitive proposals seeking up to $50,000 per year should address an aspect of data management such as, but not limited to, extensible infrastructure for data interoperability, data to insight, data lifecycles, digital data curation or scientific data preservation.
The grants are intended to support either or both the early development of innovative research likely to compete favorably for future competitive external funding or the production of translational deliverables such as new software, a demonstration collection, or other tangible output that advances the goals of the Data to Insight Center. Recipients are required to write semi-annual reports and present results of research upon completion.
Funding is available for one year, although applicants are welcome to apply again for continuing support. D2I expects to award up to five grants this year and no proposal or project, no matter how many applications it is divided into, should seek more than $50,000 in any one year.
Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of peers. Proposals should be clear, direct, specific, and written in a way that can be understood by experts outside the field.
An individual may be an investigator in no more than two proposals that respond to this solicitation and funds may be requested by faculty, professional staff, or other full-time employees of IU Bloomington or IUPUI. Proposals may involve collaboration with colleagues at other institutions, but only the expenses incurred at IU or by IU personnel are eligible for support.
The solicitation was announced July 12 and proposals are due July 29, with funds available Aug. 30. Applicants should use the cover sheets and budget template provided by D2I at https://pti.iu.edu/d2i/call-for-proposals. Additional information about proposal requirements (investigator biographies, budget narrative, etc.) are also available at the site.
