SPEA names academic scholarship winners

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aug. 18, 2010

BLOOMINGTON -- The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs announced today (Aug. 18) that two students have been awarded the SPEA Academic Admission Award for fall 2010-11.

The $2,000 award, created for the school's highest-achieving newly admitted students, is based on the IU cumulative grade point average. To qualify, students must be newly admitted to SPEA, enrolled as a full-time student and taking at least six credit hours of SPEA course work.

Award recipients are:

  • Kaitlyn Walker, who is working on a Bachelor of Science in public affairs with a major in policy analysis. She attended Mooresville High School in Indiana and is in her third semester at IU Bloomington.
  • Alexander Pantos, who is working on a Bachelor of Science in arts management. He attended Westfield High School in Indiana and is in his third semester at IU Bloomington.

SPEA created the Academic Admission Award in the fall of 2009 to recognize students entering the school who have distinguished themselves academically. Students may apply for admission to SPEA twice each year: by May 1 and by Dec. 1. Academic Admission Award recipients are selected from each entering class.

The IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs is committed to teaching, research and service in areas such as public and nonprofit management, public policy, environmental science, criminal justice, arts administration and health administration. The school has earned national distinction for innovative educational programs that combine administrative, social, economic, financial and environmental disciplines.
