'Safe Halloween' Oct. 27 at IU's Greek houses

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 22, 2010

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Little ghosts, princesses and super heroes will join Indiana University undergraduate students in an early Halloween celebration Oct. 27.

Safe Halloween

A "Star Wars" clad trick-or-treater enjoys Safe Halloween 2009.

From 5:30-7:30 p.m. next Wednesday, IU's Panhellenic Association -- in collaboration with the Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council -- is hosting IU's annual Safe Halloween event on North Jordan Avenue.

"Safe Halloween is one of my favorite annual events," said Kirk White, assistant vice president at the IU Office of Engagement. "It's a great way for local children and their families to connect with IU students in a fun, safe environment. The Greek houses get very creative with their costumes each year."

Visitors to Safe Halloween are advised to park in the lot next to the IU outdoor tennis courts, directly across from Jordan Avenue, then head toward Alpha Delta Pi and Alpha Xi Delta and work their way up the extension.

"The entire Greek community has been working extremely hard to coordinate this event, and we can't wait to see it all come together," said event coordinator Stephanie Nowell, an IU senior and member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. "Your families will enjoy a fun evening you'll be sure to remember for years to come."

The IU Police Department will restrict traffic at both ends of the Jordan Avenue extension for the event, and officers will also be available to assist with crossing the street at Fee Lane and the Jordan extension.
