InPIRG to host first Renew Fest in Dunn Meadow at Indiana University

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana Public Interest Research Group (InPIRG) Local Foods and Sustainable IU campaigns have teamed up to host Renew Fest, a festival focusing on local foods and sustainability.
This is Renew Fest's first year and it will take place Tuesday (April 26) from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Dunn Meadow. Renew Fest will feature tabling areas for local farmers, businesses, artists, and several local bands to play on the stage.
INPIRG is a nonprofit student organization that works on issues such as environmental protection, consumer protection, and hunger and homelessness.
Renew Fest is designed to show students, both on and off campus, how they can get involved in sustainable living. Some of the groups participating are: Bloomington Valley Nursery, Bloomington Community Orchard, Stranger's Hill Organics, Muddy Fork Farm, Full Moon Milk Soaps, Bloomingfoods Deli, SPROUTS (Students Producing Organics Under the Sun), American Cetacean Society Student Coalition, Bloomington Cooperative Living, City Chicks and the I-69 Accountability Project.
The festival will feature composting as well as lessons in how to compost. Bands playing at the festival are the Main Squeeze, -pttt> (pronounced as a lip smack), Sam Simmons, Od Koga and Hotfox. Jake the Painter will be selling artwork.
The event is free but students are encouraged to bring cash so they can purchase from the local vendors. Herbs, flowers, soaps, artisan breads and more will be available for purchase. T-shirts will also be available in exchange for a donation to Bloomington's New Hope Family Shelter.
