IU to welcome 17 new Lilly Scholars from across Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- This fall, Indiana University Bloomington will welcome 17 new Lilly Endowment Community Scholars representing 15 Indiana cities.

IU has admitted Lilly Endowment Community Scholars every year of the program's existence, since it was founded in 1998.

The students have an average grade point average of 3.91, an average SAT score of 1239 and an average ACT of 28; among them are four valedictorians and five first-generation college students. A total of 142 students received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships this year throughout the state.

The Lilly Endowment Community scholarship covers full tuition and required fees for four years of undergraduate study at any baccalaureate program in Indiana, as well as a stipend of $800 for books and other required materials.

"We are thrilled to have 17 outstanding Lilly Community Endowment Scholarship recipients with extraordinary academic promise joining us on the Bloomington campus this fall," said Sarah Booher, director of scholarships at IU.

The new class of scholars includes students from Fort Wayne, Nashville, Logansport, West Harrison, New Albany, Merrillville, Hammond, Indianapolis, Bloomington, Winslow, Valparaiso, Ferdinand, Sullivan, Lafayette and Evansville. Their intended fields of study are biology, Spanish, political science, speech pathology, business, nonprofit management, management and marketing.
