DVD special features bring viewers to today's Kinsey Institute

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A two-disc, special edition of Kinsey, released on DVD today (May 16), brings viewers into the 21st-century Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University.
The Fox Searchlight biopic examines the life of pioneering sex researcher Alfred Kinsey, who was a distinguished zoologist at Indiana University before he conducted groundbreaking research on human sexuality in the mid-1900s. Liam Neeson stars as Kinsey, with Laura Linney portraying Kinsey's wife.
"There is no mention at the end of the movie about the continued legacy of Alfred Kinsey," noted Jennifer Bass, head of information services at the Kinsey Institute. "With the expanded features, DVD viewers are introduced to our vibrant and productive institute today."
In addition to a gag reel, deleted scenes and the original ending, the special edition includes the following features involving the Kinsey Institute:
- Curator Catherine Johnson-Roehr gives viewers a tour of the Sex Ed exhibit in the institute's gallery.
- Viewers can fill out an interactive questionnaire developed by Kinsey Institute research scientist Erick Janssen. The questionnaire is based on a new model at the Kinsey Institute for understanding sexual response. The Dual Control Model of Sexual Response proposes that sexual response is the product of both excitatory (arousal) and inhibitory (turn-off) mechanisms. Viewers can fill out the questionnaire and see how they compare to thousands of other people who have completed the new research tool.
- A documentary about the making of the film, "The Kinsey Report: Sex on Film," includes interviews with current staff; clips of the cast, crew and director regarding the production process; and scenes from the movie premiere on the IU Bloomington campus last November.
Artwork from the Kinsey Institute will be on display in Los Angeles, May 17-19, at The Gallery @ 8920 Melrose in honor of the release of the Kinsey DVD.
