BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Bill Maher, one of America's most provocative comedians, will perform at Indiana University Auditorium at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28.

For the past 18 years, Maher has pushed the boundaries of where funny, political talk can go on American television through late-night talk shows. He currently hosts HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," which has featured regular visitors such as John Edwards, Robin Williams and Arianna Huffington.

Maher started hosting Comedy Central's, and later ABC's, "Politically Incorrect" in 1993, which won him numerous awards, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Technical Direction. Throughout his comically controversial career, he has earned 23 Emmy Award nominations and was named one of Comedy Central's 100 Greatest Stand-up Comedians of All Time.

Maher began his career as a stand-up comedian and actor, which landed him appearances on Johnny Carson and David Letterman's shows in the early 1980s. He also acted in several films and has written five bestsellers including "When You Ride Alone, You Ride With Bin Laden" and "New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer." Maher has been unapologetic about his opinions concerning politics, religion and everything in between, and has become known for fearlessly calling out politicians, corporations, celebrities and public figures.

"Whether you come because you love to agree or love to disagree with him, Bill Maher is sure to keep you entertained from start to finish," IU Auditorium director Doug Booher said. "His irreverent comedic style and unapologetic take on people and politics will keep you glued to your seats, or rolling in the aisles. Prepare for an incredible night -- this is definitely not to be missed."
