IU President Adam Herbert delays parking garage consideration
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept. 13, 2005
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University President Adam Herbert today (Sept. 13) announced that the IU Board of Trustees will delay consideration of a proposed five-level, 600-car parking garage to serve the southwest corner of the Bloomington campus.
Herbert said he is postponing a board discussion of the project at the Sept. 16 business meeting to enable representatives of the university administration to discuss the project with neighborhood residents.
"We want to facilitate a conversation between the administration and the neighborhood over concerns they have voiced about the proposal," Herbert said.
J. Terry Clapacs, vice president and chief administrative officer, will oversee the meetings between neighborhood residents and the university.
The parking structure would be built on an existing surface parking lot on the northwest corner of Atwater and Fess avenues. Postponement of board action was requested by the Elm Heights Neighborhood Association.
