Singing Hoosiers to present spring concert

"A Celebration of American Popular Song" is the theme for the annual spring concert by the Indiana University Singing Hoosiers on April 6 at 8 p.m. in the Indiana University Auditorium..

The performance by the university's premier vocal ensemble is open to the public, with tickets priced from $8 to $12 for reserved seating. Tickets are available by phone through TicketMaster (812-333-9955) or in person at the IU Auditorium Box Office.

The program will feature singing and dancing to popular Broadway music of the 20th and 21st centuries. There will be a special tribute to Richard Rodgers, in recognition of the 100th anniversary of his birth, that will focus on his collaboration with famous lyricists Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II.

The Singing Hoosiers, directed by Michael Schwartzkopf, are comprised of 125 student vocalists and instrumentalists with diverse majors. The group has traveled throughout the United States and Europe, been nominated for two Grammy awards, and recorded four albums with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.
