Several IU graduate programs included in U.S. News rankings
Indiana University graduate programs in business, education, law, math and science continue to be highly ranked in the 2003 edition of U.S. News & World Report's "Best Graduate Schools."
The Kelley School of Business was ranked 21st, compared to 20th last year. Six programs in the School of Education were ranked in the top 10 nationally: administration/supervision, counseling/personnel services, curriculum/instruction, elementary education, secondary education and higher education administration. The School of Education overall was tied for 19th, compared to a tie for 15th last year. The School of Law in Bloomington was ranked 39th, compared to 40th last year.
New rankings this year included IU Bloomington among the top 50 Ph.D. programs in several areas. Within chemistry, analytic chemistry was ranked fourth in the nation. Chemistry overall was tied for 27th. Other highly ranked programs included applied mathematics (tied at 33rd), biological sciences (tied at 41st), mathematics (tied at 26th) and physics (tied at 32nd). A different ranking methodology was used this year, precluding comparisons with these programs' previous rankings four years ago.
IU Bloomington Chancellor Sharon Stephens Brehm praised the faculty in these schools and programs for "extraordinary dedication to the very highest standards of excellence in their fields and profound commitment to their students. They are the leaders in their disciplines today while they prepare those who will set the pace for the future. I thank our faculty and our graduate students for their hard work and applaud their many outstanding accomplishments."
The full rankings by U.S. News & World Report will be released to the public on Monday (April 8) in the book "Best Graduate Schools," and many of the rankings will appear in the magazine's issue that goes on sale that day. The full rankings also are posted on the magazine's Web site at https://www.usnews.com.
U.S. News rankings of undergraduate programs will be announced in September.
